Curl presented a unique set of design challenges that ultimately drove a more thoughtful and sculptural outcome. The site’s irregular shape and prominent frontage to the busy, north-west-facing Nicklin Way demanded a sensitive and strategic response both in form and orientation.

To address the sun and sound exposure, we pivoted each home to open towards the north, shielding interiors from the western heat and traffic while creating a strong rhythmic expression along the street. The resulting blade walls form a sculptural facade creating a distinct, undulating gesture that now serves as a landmark gateway to the greater Bokarina Beach precinct.

Curl rethinks what density can look and feel like on the Sunshine Coast, the project steps away from the typical box-form model to deliver something more refined, more responsive, and undeniably coastal. It’s been a joy to hear the public reaction because people are noticing it, and that’s when you know architecture is doing its job.
